Montpellier is a large town where you can find oenological workshops, wine estates, wine from the Languedoc such as the “Grés de Montpellier”. There are wine bars, wine cellars and plenty of other curiosities linked to wine. With nearly 33% of French production on a surface area of about 300,000Ha, Montpellier is the capital of the first wine region in the world. Its vineyards spread from the North to the South of the town, or from the “Pic Saint-Loup” to the Mediterranean coast to be more precise

You will have the chance to taste wines from one area of the Pic Saint-Loup. You will enjoy a lovely sunny day out in the fields of the South of France when you go off to find out about the culture of wine and olives. The Haut Lirou wine estate is located in Saint-Jean-de-Cuculles, a typical little village in in the northern region of Montpellier and you will be more than welcome there.
During a walk in the vineyards, you will learn about the wine making procedure and the history of the estate in all its details. The area of the Haut Lirou estate has 17 hectares of old and young vines, where there are varieties of merlot, syrah or grenache but also the well-known chardonnay.
You will get to taste several types of wine. All your senses will be alert, be it the taste, smell or sight. You will receive a terminology sheet to describe each step. You will of course have the possibility to buy souvenirs to remind you of your visit to the area.
Next, you will go off to visit the Oulivie estate, which is in fact an authentic and family run business where olive trees have been cultivated according to traditions for 50 years. The olive grove is essentially dedicated to the olive Orchard: the field cultivates olive trees to get olives to make oil.
The various stages involved in the manufacturing of this olive oil will be explained right from picking the olives to bottling them.
